Situated in the southeast corner of Tioga County, the Town of Owego was formed March 14, 1800.

Today, Owego spreads across 110 square miles and offers approximately 265 miles of roads. Owego borders the Town of Tioga to the west, the Town of Newark Valley to the north, Broome County to the east, and Bradford County, Pa., to the south. The 2000 census listed the town’s population as 20,365.

The Village of Owego (population 3,911) is the county seat of Tioga County. Apalachin’s population is 1,126.

The village’s major employers are the Tioga County government and OA school district, while Lockheed Martin is certainly the town’s most notable employer.

The village’s central business district is showcased with a new bridge across the Susquehanna River leading to the 1879 Tioga County Courthouse and quaint shops along Riverow and Lake Street, offering unique gifts, arts and crafts.
