LETTER FROM HEATH GEORGIA, OFA PRINCIPAL

On behalf of the faculty and staff at Owego Free Academy, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school's Web page. OFA has enjoyed tremendous success in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts during its 139-year history. Our students and staff have many recent accomplishments that have contributed to the continuation of our long-standing tradition of success.

During the 2011-2012 school year, OFA's achievements included:

* We were one of the top schools in the region in the new NYS Regents Aspirational Performance Measure (APM). The APM indicates the percentage of students that have graduated from high school, ready to take college-level courses without remediation. The APM score last year for OFA was almost double the state average and was one of the highest in Upstate New York.

* In overall Advanced Placement average scores, OFA ranked fourth of 41 school districts in this region of New York state.

* Over the last year in sports, OFA has had: Section IV championship teams; a STAC division championship team; numerous student-athletes competing at the state championship level; more than 50 athletes named to post-season all-star teams; and, multiple students having been awarded all-state recognition.

This year, our music department was highly honored at the NYS School Music Associations Major Festival, receiving the following awards: OFA Girls Chorus - gold rating; OFA Concert Chorus - gold rating; OFA Concert Band - gold rating; OFA Jazz Band II - gold rating; and, over the three days of NYSSMA competion, the OFA Jazz Band I was the only instrumental music group in our region to attain a "gold medal with distinction."

OFA truly is an academic community committed to the success of its students. We have much to be proud of in all aspects of our educational experience. Together, we'll continue to build upon the positives our district has to offer and advocate for the diversity and unique needs, talents and gifts of each of our students.
