OACSD was the site for both an Innovation Summit and the Health and Physical Education Regional Conference

OACSD was the site for both an Innovation Summit and the Health and Physical Education Regional Conference.  The Innovation Summit was a collaboration with the Windsor Central School District and took place in Owego Aplachin Middle School and Owego Free Academy.  Teachers from both OA and Windsor created workshops and presentations that their colleagues could choose to participate in.  Each presenter was given a special thank you gift that was created in the OA STEAM Academy.  OFA Technology teacher, Mike Daly, created a notepad holder out of wood, using a laser engraver.  Students in Melanie Murphy’s OFA Digital Art class designed four different options that were engraved onto the cover.  The summit was a great way for teachers to share with fellow teachers some of the incredible things they do in the classroom on a daily basis.

The Health and Physical Education Regional Conference took place at Owego Elementary School.  The purpose of the conference was to begin to build a regional learning community that can share effective practices to advance the health of students in Broome and Tioga Counties.  Numerous districts sent Health and PE teachers to attend and learn from different presenters.  Owego Apalachin Central School District P.E. teachers, Koren Kinney and Rob Glielmi presented on some of the ways our district incorporates technology into physical education, including using heart rate monitors.

With collaboration being a huge part of professional growth, this was a tremendous day of learning from each other with greater student success being the ultimate goal for everyone involved.
