Search Engines The following search engines use search engine math (+, -, and " "). This entails the use of the + sign indicating that the response must have this word or phrase, the - sign indicating that this word or phrase must be taken out or subtracted, and the use of quotation marks " " indicating that a phrase or multiple of words is being used. For example, to search for soccer teams in Europe but not Finland, you would use the following terms: +"soccer teams" +Europe -Finland Note that you skip a space before the + or - sign but not after either sign.
