Owego, NY — Three student-athletes from Owego Free Academy made a strong showing at the 100% Raw Powerlifting Federation’s first-ever New York State High School Championships. This landmark event marks the federation’s inaugural high school-only meet, open to students from across New York State.
While participation numbers were modest this year, with around 25 student lifters, the meet represents a promising step toward making competitive powerlifting more accessible for high schoolers. “This is the federation I started in as a student-athlete at OFA, so it's exciting to see it evolve in a way that makes the sport less intimidating for young lifters,” said Lindsay Field, an OFA alum and the OFA Barbell Club Coach.
Director Andrew Long expressed enthusiasm for the future, hoping to build on this year’s success and increase participation in the years to come.
Representing OFA at the meet were Adam Llewellyn, Declan O’Hara, and Izzy Taylor, all of whom delivered impressive performances and brought home first-place trophies in their respective age and weight classes.
