Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) and Kindergarten (K) registrations for the 2022-2023 school year are still being accepted at both Owego Elementary and Apalachin Elementary.

UPK Update

Each building has a limited number of spaces still open following the registration deadline of 4/4/22. Those families who completed their registration prior to the 4/4 deadline will be notified by the school of their child’s UPK acceptance and upcoming screening date/time. The limited remaining spaces will be filled on a first come, first served basis upon receipt of completed registration. After all slots are filled, a waiting list will be created by the date of receipt of completed registration.

To be eligible for the UPK program, children must live in the district and turn 4 on or before 12/1/22.  A child may not ride the bus until their 4th birthday.

Children will attend the UPK program at the elementary building where they will be attending kindergarten. Once a child reaches age 4, the district may be able to provide transportation, both ways for full-day sessions.

 Kindergarten Update

Children who will be five years old on or before 12/1/22 are eligible to enter Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year. All registered children will be screened in May or June in the areas of speech, language, vision, hearing, fine motor and gross motor skills. This screening is required by the New York State Department of Education and will help us identify any special needs your child might have.

If you are interested in your child being considered for either the UPK or K program, please complete the registration form and required documentation and return it to the building your child will attend. In addition to the registration form, the following is required: copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization record (polio, measles, diphtheria, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B), two forms of proof of residency, and the health certificate signed by your child’s physician. You may also complete a UPK registration form at Apalachin Elementary School and Owego Elementary School.

Registration prior to the beginning of school is very important, as it enables the school to estimate time needed for school readiness screening, classes and transportation needs.  Additionally, it provides an opportunity for school visitation before the opening session in the fall.

If you have any questions regarding UPK or K Registration, please contact Heath Georgia, Executive Director of Administration, at 687-7307 ext. 7011.
