ABBEY LUFFMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RELEASED

This scholarship is in memory of Abbey Mae Luffman who was a member of the OFA class of 2021. The intent of the ‘Abbey Mae Luffman Memorial Scholarship’ is to help others who have similar aspirations as Abbey; someone going into the medical/healthcare field. Owego Free Academy is officially announcing and releasing the scholarship today, February 22nd, Abbey’s birthday.

OACSD NAMED MODEL PLC DISTRICT

The Owego Apalachin Central School District was recently recognized by Solution Tree as a 'Model PLC District'. The district’s successful implementation of the Professional Learning Communities at Work® process was a major contributing factor in the improved achievement of its students. Senator Fred Akshar recognizes 5th Grader, Jenna McEvoy, from Owego Elementary School as the latest Akshar's All-Star. Jenna’s teachers, coaches and peers all recommended her for this award and in their recommendations two words kept coming up: “Leader” and “Humility.”

5 OFA MUSICIANS ACCEPTED INTO ALL STATE & ALL NATIONAL ENSEMBLES

The OA Music Department is proud to congratulate 5 outstanding student musicians on their acceptance into All State and All National level ensembles.  Senior Jacob Dove will perform with the All National Modern Band on trombone.  Seniors Kenndy Dyer-DeCator (alto 1) and Allison Welch (soprano 1) will sing with the Mixed Choir.  For the second year, Jayden Ripic will represent OFA in the Wind Ensemble on French horn.  Senior Jason Caldwell (percussion) is an alternate for the band.

OFA TEACHER COLLABORATES WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

When Owego Free Academy classes moved to remote instruction last Spring, OFA teacher, Sean Swider collaborated with the University of Michigan to utilize their role playing simulation tool ViewPoint to keep students engaged.  Mr. Swider used ViewPoint, developed by the Center for Academic Innovation in collaboration with Liz Gerber, the Jack L. Walker, Jr. Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. The tool allows users to build customized simulations with participants playing roles to learn problem-solving, collaboration, empathy, and communication skills.
