Owego Free Academy juniors traveled to 5 counties with American Music Abroad (AMA). Our students visited France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. Juniors JJ Bowgren, Larissa Fisher, Mariah Hogg, Rachel Raftis, Derek Sarrge and Austin Snyder performed with the mixed chorus. JJ also played trumpet with the band. They were recommended by their music teachers and prepared the music on their own for a few months before departing. After a few rehearsals with the groups, they were off to perform! These musicians performed in beautiful churches, cathedrals, town squares, and theaters in every country.
AMA was founded in 1975 by a high school band director as a way to fulfill their love of Europe with high school students. In over 40 years, over 32,000 high school students across the US have performed with AMA. Music is a universal language and a wonderful way to transcend boundaries and learn about other cultures. Austin Snyder "loved exploring with his OFA friends and meeting so many new people along the way." Larissa Fisher shared that her favorite part was "traveling with so many amazing musicians - and the gelato!"
Congrats to our amazing OFA musicians!
