UPK AND KINDERGARTEN 2020-2021 REGISTRATION

OWEGO APALACHIN CSD UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN PRESS RELEASE

Registrations for the 2020-2021 school year are now being accepted for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for families who reside in the district. A registration form and health certificate can be obtained at the OA website under the Pupil Personnel department link: www.oacsd.org, at Apalachin Elementary School, 405 Pennsylvania Avenue, Apalachin, or Owego Elementary School, 2 Sheldon Guile Blvd., Owego.

To be eligible for the program, children must live in the district and turn 4 on or before 12/1/20.  A child may not ride the bus until their 4th birthday.

UPK sessions are:

Apalachin Elementary – full day program (9:05 – 3:25)

Owego Elementary – full day program (9:05 – 3:25), AM session (9:05 – 11:35) and PM session (12:55 – 3:25)

Children will attend the UPK program at the elementary building where they will be attending kindergarten.

Once a child reaches age 4, the district may be able to provide transportation, both ways for full day sessions, to the morning session or home from the afternoon session, if the parent/guardian chooses.  It will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pick up their child after the morning session is over or transport their child to the afternoon session.

If you are interested in your child being considered for this program, please complete the registration form and required documentation and return it to the building your child will attend. In addition to the registration form, the following is required: copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization record (polio, measles, diphtheria, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B), two forms of proof of residency, and the health certificate signed by your child’s physician.  You may also complete a UPK registration form at Apalachin Elementary School and Owego Elementary School for the 2020-21 school year on February 4th, 5th and 6th, 2020 at kindergarten registration.

Due to limited openings, it may be necessary to randomly select which students will be able to attend the program.  Registrations will be accepted in the buildings until 9:00 AM on 4/3/20, at which time a random selection will be held at the district office, if needed. If your location or session fills up, you will have the opportunity to choose from other available sessions, if applicable.  After all slots are filled, those not selected will be put on a waiting list by date of receipt of completed registration. If you have any questions regarding UPK, please contact Robert Farrell, Assistant Superintendent, at 687-6227

OWEGO APALACHIN CSD KINDERGARTEN PRESS RELEASE

Registration for the 2020-2021 school year for children who will be attending Kindergarten will be held Tuesday, February 4; Wednesday, February 5; and Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM and 1:00 - 3:00 PM each day at Apalachin Elementary School and Owego Elementary School.  A registration form and health certificate can be obtained at the OA website under the Pupil Personnel department link: www.oacsd.org, at Apalachin Elementary School, 405 Pennsylvania Ave., Apalachin, or Owego Elementary School, 2 Sheldon Guile Blvd., Owego.

Children who will be five years old on or before 12/1/20 are eligible to enter Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. All registered children will be screened in May or June in the areas of speech, language, vision, hearing, fine motor and gross motor skills.  This screening is required by the New York State Department of Education and will help us identify any special needs your child might have.

Please complete the registration form and required documentation and return it to the building your child will attend.  Parents who are unable to register their child on the dates designated above should contact the school principal at the number listed below and arrange a time that is convenient to both parties.  In addition to the registration form, the following is required: copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization record (polio, measles, diphtheria, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B), two forms of proof of residency, and the health certificate signed by your child’s physician.

Registration prior to the beginning of school is very important, as it enables the school to estimate time needed for school readiness screening, classes and transportation needs.  Additionally, it provides an opportunity for school visitation before the opening session in the fall.  If you have any questions regarding Kindergarten, please contact Robert Farrell, Assistant Superintendent at (607)687-6227.
