Marathon Health Ribbon Cutting Image

Leadership from the Owego Apalachin Central School District officially cut the ribbon on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, on a new, dedicated healthcare facility that marks a major milestone for employee wellness in the Southern Tier. The Marathon Health Center, located at 116 N. Jensen Rd. in Vestal, is now open and providing exclusive medical services to district employees and their families.

The ceremony featured remarks from OACSD Superintendent Dr. Corey Green, along with representatives from Marathon Health. The event celebrated the successful launch of a "first-of-its-kind" partnership in the region, designed to remove barriers to high-quality care for educators and school staff.

“This center is now a reality for our hardworking staff,” said Dr. Corey Green. “We aren't just talking about supporting our employees; we are providing them with a physical space where they can prioritize their health without the burden of high costs or long wait times.”

This initiative reflects the district’s progressive approach to managing rising healthcare costs through proactive, value-based care. By investing in preventative services and direct care, OACSD is working to stabilize insurance premiums and reduce long-term claims, ultimately helping to relieve the financial burden on local taxpayers.

A New Era of Access

With the center now fully operational, eligible staff and their families have immediate access to a wide range of services, including:

  • Primary Care & Sick Visits: Quick diagnosis and treatment for everyday health needs.

  • Mental Health Services: Dedicated support for emotional and psychological well-being.

  • Specialized Care: Occupational health, musculoskeletal support, and chronic condition management.

  • Pharmacy & Labs: On-site services to streamline prescriptions and testing.

The facility is specifically designed to accommodate the busy schedules of school employees, offering walk-in availability to ensure that a teacher or staff member can receive care for themselves or a child and return to their day as quickly as possible.

Who Can Use the Center?

The Marathon Health Center is an exclusive benefit for:

  • Current OACSD and Maine-Endwell employees (and their families) who use the district insurance.

  • District retirees under the age of 65 who are covered under an Excellus plan.

By providing these services at little to no cost, the districts aim to improve long-term health outcomes and increase overall job satisfaction. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees toured the state-of-the-art facility, which is strategically located in a central Broome County hub to serve both participating districts effectively.
