OWEGO, NY – Owego Free Academy’s girls’ lacrosse team showed strong effort to win a tough game against Seton at home on Monday night. With great teamwork among the defensive unit and a terrific game from goaltender Liz Williams, the River Hawks played the pace that they wanted.
Keira Henry started the scoring for the River Hawks with a free-position goal. Owego Free Academy tied the game at 2 with a goal by Mikayla Wilbur in what would be a back-and-forth contest.
Defender Shirina Harris made a major impact on both ends of the field, highlighting her night by gaining possession on a ground ball off a turnover and taking it the distance for a transition goal to give OFA a 3-2 lead.
Owego’s defensive unit, led by Gabby Boehme, Keely Wicklund, Shirina Harris, and Betty Pellicano, worked to limit scoring opportunities. When Seton did find a lane, they were met by Goalie Liz Williams, who was dominant in the cage. Williams turned away 18 shots, anchoring the defense and frustrating the Saints' offense all night long.
As the clock wound down in a game tied at 3, Ella Binford provided the exclamation point, driving in for a goal with just 1:20 remaining to seal the victory.
Looking Ahead: Owego, now 1-3, will look to build on this game when they host Maine-Endwell on Thursday, April 23, 2026. JV at 5:00 PM and Varsity at 6:45 PM.
