OWEGO, NY – The Owego Free Academy River Hawks (7-1) continued their dominant stretch on Wednesday, blanking Seton Catholic 9-0.
Miley Laubach led the hit parade with a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon, including a double. Geneva Crawford and Emily Sipe both turned in multi-hit games, going 2-for-3, respectively.
The River Hawks collectively swiped eight bases, led by Crawford’s three stolen bases. Braelea McLaren provided the punch when it mattered most, driving in two runs on solid contact to help build the 9-0 cushion.
In the 4th inning, with the bases loaded and the Saints threatening to cut into the lead, the River Hawks executed a rare and perfect 4-2-3 double play. Second baseman Geneva Crawford fielded a grounder and fired home to catcher Miley Laubach for the first out, who then turned and fired to Elise Silvanic at first base to end the inning and the threat.
Joslynn Space was busy dismantling the Seton lineup. Space turned in another masterful complete-game performance, throwing all seven innings, racking up seven strikeouts, and allowing zero runs.
The coaching staff attributed the win to the team's cohesion and discipline:
"The girls played errorless softball while stringing together hit after hit, which is a result of their success for this season so far. Everyone contributed in some way at this game, and team chemistry is high!"
