Dear School Community,
As we transition into the summer break, we are excited to take the next steps in our District Capital Project. These upgrades will greatly improve our facilities for students, staff, and community members.
Because several major projects kick off this week, there will be immediate impacts on campus traffic, parking, and facility access. Please review the breakdown of upcoming work below.
AES Updates
Cafeteria Renovation: Work is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026.
Playground Upgrades: Delivery of the new playground equipment has been slightly delayed. It is now expected to arrive in late summer or early fall. We will share updates on installation timelines as soon as they are confirmed.
Owego Free Academy Updates (OFA & OAMS Campus)
Work on the athletic field officially started today, June 22, 2026. In the large OFA lot near the Island Field.
Pool Locker Rooms & Bathrooms: Renovation work is underway. To maintain facility availability, locker rooms will be remodeled one at a time.
Critical Traffic, Parking & Safety Adjustments (Starting June 23)
To ensure the safety of our community and construction crews, major safety fencing will be installed starting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 23. Please note the following closures:
Fencing will be installed from the island to the main building. The front of OFA is completely shut down to traffic and pedestrians.
Pool Parking Lot Closed: This lot will be entirely closed and used as a construction staging area. Community members using the pool should plan to park in the main lot at the middle school and walk around the building to the pool entrance.
Campus Traffic Routing: Because of these closures, all campus traffic must utilize the OAMS parking lot for entry, exit, and parking. This includes any use of the stadium.
Safety Reminder: Construction zones will be clearly marked and fenced off. For your safety, please do not enter any restricted areas and use extra caution when driving through the OAMS parking lot.
We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we work to improve our schools. We will continue to keep you updated as these projects progress throughout the summer and fall!

The meeting will be streamed on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/live/TOWD2Ssqvi8.
Board meeting agendas are posted on Board Docs at www.oacsd.org. We encourage anyone with questions or comments to utilize Let’s Talk! - https://www.oacsd.org/page/lets-talk. Your questions and comments will be addressed by the appropriate district personnel or members of the board of education.

“My favorite part about art is that you don’t have to do just one thing; you can make your own, and you don’t have to copy others. You can think about what you like and what your personality is, and it’s just for fun. You can talk to your friends and make weird things, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.” Third grader Lennyn Flint spoke to us about how important art is to her and what she’s able to take away from it. Apalachin Elementary School Families,
Tomorrow, Monday, June 22, is officially the last day of school! Please note that this is a half-day for all students, and dismissal will be at 11:00 AM.
Because everyone will be leaving at the same time, please review the important traffic and safety reminders below to help make our final pickup of the year as smooth as possible:
Expect Traffic Delays: Traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue will be significantly heavier than usual around 11:00 AM. Please plan your arrival accordingly.
Traffic Control On-Site: School staff and local police will be stationed along the route, directing traffic to ensure a safe and efficient dismissal.
Stay in Your Vehicle: For the safety of all students and staff, please remain in your car and follow the directional prompts from traffic monitors.
Keep the Line Moving: Once your child is safely loaded into your vehicle, please move through the pickup line promptly so other families can do the same.
Thank you so much for your incredible patience, cooperation, and support throughout this school year. We hope you and your family have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer break!

Art Teacher Jolene Williams gives us a tour of the annual art show. Get a look at a bunch of the projects the students worked on this year, here on Showcase Arts TV. https://youtu.be/k18EmjcmyC4

But the excitement doesn't stop there. This year’s spectacular effort officially pushes AES past a lifetime fundraising total of $205,100 since the school first launched the event in 1993!
Here is how they did it:
Throughout February, students jumped headfirst into learning about proper nutrition, daily exercise, and hands-only CPR.
The campaign culminated in a high-energy, 90-minute jump-rope event where students showcased serious endurance and even outlasted some of the AES staff!
To honor this amazing dedication, representatives from the American Heart Association and GHS Federal Credit Union visited the school to officially present AES with a brand-new CPR Kit and special goodies for the kids.
