CORNING, NY – The Owego drone soccer program continued its reign of technical precision and aerial dominance this past Saturday at Corning PP Middle School. Just one week after securing the GST BOCES league title, Owego Free Academy saw both its teams punch their tickets to the District 2 Championships.
OFA Retains Regional Crown
The Owego Red team, a veteran squad composed entirely of second-year members, took first place at the Regional Qualifier for the second consecutive year. Their performance was a masterclass in efficiency, as they went undefeated throughout the tournament.
The Red team dispatched Prattsburg, Owego Blue, Bath Haverling, and Spencer-Van Etten, winning every match in straight sets. This seasoned group, many of whom competed at the 2025 National Championship, looks to defend their District title next month.
Owego Red Roster:
Scott Reigle, Ephraim Doty, Levi Saunders, Liam Bell, Sarah Heath, Caleb Carvellas, Lillie Kneller, Tanner Hayes, and Cadon Wasielewski.
Blue Team Defies Seeding
In an impressive showing for the program’s depth, Owego Blue, a first-year group, entered the tournament as the 5th seed and fought its way onto the podium.
After an opening two-set victory over Watkins Glen, the Blue team fell to their veteran counterparts (Owego Red) in the second round. However, they rallied in the consolation bracket to defeat Campbell-Savona in two sets, securing a 4th-place finish and a qualifying spot for the postseason.
Owego Blue Roster:
Jaxson Romero, Eli Dunlap, Cora Henderson, Sophia Raeff, Quinn Morse, Grady Morse, Caleb Rathke, Maddox Stanley, Ian McGowan, Owen Saunders, Cameron Barber, and Kellen Luke.
Road to Utica
The "Double Qualification" means both Owego teams will travel to SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica on Sunday, March 8, 2026. They will face off against the premier teams from across New York and New Jersey at the District 2 Championships.
"Winning the league was the first step; seeing both our veteran and rookie teams qualify for Districts shows the incredible growth of this program," the team noted following the trophy presentation.

The meeting will also be streamed for viewing only on our YouTube channel here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RIB4Q4wCF4.

Check out this incredible find shared by Mr. K at OFA. This postcard from 1907 captures the Owego Bridge Works, a powerhouse of local industry that manufactured steel bridges found all across the Northeast.
It’s amazing to see how the landscape has transformed:
Then vs. Now: The central brick building in the photo is what we now know as the Open Door Mission.
The View: Taken from the main road (now Route 38), looking toward what is now our OACSD main campus.
The Layout: This is one of the earliest glimpses of our school grounds! OES would eventually sit to the left, the sports fields in the center, and OFA/OAMS toward the far right.
It’s pretty wild to see open fields and hills where our students now learn and play every day.
